"Begin 2 Draw" - Complete Beginners Drawing Course
A 5 week beginners drawing course running Thursday afternoons and evenings.
Have you always wanted to learn to draw but don't know where to start? Have you bought lots of books on drawing but can never find the time to actually draw? When you have attempted to draw are you dissappointed with the results? Did someone once tell you you couldn't draw? Do you tell yourself that? Have you thought about doing the "Ways of Seeing" life drawing course but feel a little out of your depth with the human figure? The "Begin 2 Draw" course has been developed to help you to start drawing and improve your drawing abilities at the most basic level. You don't need to have any previous drawing experience just bring a willingness to have a go and have some fun. Each lesson is structured around a specific learning objective using a simple "still life" set up of objects. (See full Course Programme below.) There is no figure drawing on this course. Classes are limited to 6 people so you get lots of individual attention. The beginners drawing course runs for 5 weeks (5 x 3hour sessions) on Thursday afternoons or evenings. Some flexibility between evenings and daytime classes may be available subject to availability. Schedule: Week 1: Overview of Drawing Concepts. Why Draw? Week 2: Geometry and basic perspective. Learning to see. Week 3: Geometry and perspective II with shadow. Rendering space. Week 4: Understanding and exploring form, light and tone. Week 5: Learning from the masters. Compositional considerations. I believe we can all draw and getting "better" at drawing is simply a question of practice. I put better in quotes because this is a subjective and comparative term and is tied to improved illusion making capability, trickery if you will, the basics of which can be learned. But drawing is so much more than the end product, it can help us to see the world more clearly and teach us to love and express ourselves. It does not need to be about public display or the end product which for me is simply a bi-product of care-full observation. |

Testimonials
"Thank you so much for a thoroughly enjoyable introduction to drawing. I came as a complete beginner who wanted to 'draw a thing that looked like the thing' and LOL I did!" Kathy
"Thank you so much for your excellent instruction. Very constructive and informative, and you made the course interesting and fun." Gill
"Thank you Eric for your cheerful demenaor and patience and making art not just about the drawing, and explaining everything so even I was able to follow. I will definitely recommend your classes. It was lovely meeting everyone and you all made the whole experience a very lovely one." Fran
"Thank you for the course, I have really enjoyed it. :)" Katy
"The whole experience was gentle, encouraging and informative and Eric is a very kind and patient teacher. My classmates - none of whom I knew - were very friendly and by the end of the five weeks we knew a great deal about form, tone and perspective and could draw flowers, skulls, bread, wine bottles, jugs, fruit, veg and even the 'dreaded' cubes. What's more most of the time the things we drew actually looked like flowers, skulls, bread, jugs etc!" Kathy
"Thank you for the classes -- Michael [studying for his DofE] is really proud of some of the work he's done." Julia
"I found this introductory course very helpful indeed. I have learnt some basic techniques and gained a little confidence, and now I practice once or twice a week - and my friends are able to recognise what I have drawn! This is a new experience for me, having been told 50 years ago that I could not draw. I thoroughly recommend this course!" Lena
