Leonardo Da Vinci's Foot Sculpture
In 2012 I had the priviledge of attending a 1 week drawing and sculpture course at the Queen's Gallery in London run by Marcus Cornish at the Prince's Drawing School. It was a wonderful week where we had the opportunity to visit the Royal Academy life room, have lectures on anatomy from a surgeon, and draw from the Queen's collection of Leonardo Da Vinci anatomical drawings. From the drawings I made, I opted to create a sculptural representation of the foot studies that I drew from the drawings of Leonardo and the écorché at the RA.
I was pleased enough with the result to have it cast in bronze at Milwyn Casting in Leatherhead. Alex Davies was great to work with and it was a wonderful opportunity to witness the "lost wax process" of bronze casting. With the Bronze exhibition at the Royal Academy, it was a good year to learn about bronze sculpture!
For anyone interested in the anatomical drawing work of Leonardo Da Vinci who would like to see my sculpture, please contact me to arrange a visit to my studio. A limited edition of 9 original bronzes of the foot is available to purchase. These can be patinated (chemically coloured) to suit your preference. The sculpture is free standing, but could be mounted on a plinth if desired. It measures approximately 35cm long x 30cm high x 15cm wide, so is a little larger than life size.
